BOSCHVELDER & POTCH KOEKOEK CHICKENS

Our chickens roam freely on the farm and are great natural pest managers, as well as producing superior quality eggs. We are aiming to increase our number of chickens substantially, during the next few months.

Boschvelder chickens are best known for their light brown colouring that appears to be mixed with white feathers. They are well known for their hardiness and alertness which attributes to their superior survival skills when it comes to defending themselves against predators and resilience to poultry diseases.

The Potch Koekoek is characterized by its black and white striped feathers, with distinct patterns in the roosters and hens. The name Koekoek is attributed to the stripped plumage. Potch Koekoeks are good brooders with great maternal instincts. The hens able to lay an average of 198 eggs per year. The eggs weigh an average of 55.78 grams. The ability to forage for its own food makes the Potch Koekoek a great bird for free-ranging and ideal for smallholder farmers.
